We’re Moving!

The team and I have some pretty exciting, and probably unexpected, news here at The Look and Feel. It’s a pleasure to announce that as of 1 January 2017, we’ll be joining Dekode and we’re super excited for what the future holds for us.

Some Background

It’s really been quite a journey within the WordPress “world” over the years. Having been thrown into the mix with an intense start at WebDevStudios, then to Time Inc., WooThemes, Human Made and my latest shot at it with my own company The Look and Feel, I am ready for the next step in the journey at Dekode.

I’ve become quite close with Magne (CEO at Dekode) over the years that I’ve been here in Norway. We met at WordCamp Norway 2013 and I quickly realized that there was something unique about what he had started and the team that was quickly building around him. From the early days of our relationship we always talked about working together but due to a number of reasons and goals the timing wasn’t right until today.

I’ve had the privilege to continue to work together with the Dekode team over the years. From co-organizing Meetups, WordCamp Norway 2014, 2015 and 2016; to joining them on their team retreats and visiting them in office when I’ve been in Oslo, Dekode has always made me feel a part of the team and it really is a privilege to join one of the best WordPress agencies I know not only in Norway, or Scandinavia, but in the world.

The TLAF Story

The Look and Feel started out as a creative agency when I decided to take a break from WordPress back in 2015 and thought about starting my own company with a primary focus of local / regional projects with Norway. Within a year I co-founded a company together with my two good friends Frode Skaren and Frode Jerdal, and together we made an umbrella within the agency for Tech, Design and Architecture. We quickly saw opportunity within Technology (primarily WordPress) and we quickly grew to an amazingly talented team of 5 within Tech.

I won’t go much into our story at TLAF in this post and hope to one day highlight some of the amazing things we’ve been able to accomplish within such a short period of time, but I (and the team) are very proud of the projects we’ve been able to be a part of and I want to personally thank Coen, Rob, Gareth and Jack for being a very big part of this along the way.

So why stop something good that’s working?

Anybody that’s tried starting their own company, or knows someone who has, knows how tiresome and hard it actually is. I don’t wanna say that I didn’t expect it to be difficult, but it definitely was a ton of work and would continue to be for the unforeseeable future.

The start was super exciting and we’ve really had some amazing feats, but with such rapid growth and everything that comes along with growing pains I (and the team) quickly realized that it just made sense to follow through with working with Dekode in the long run given my long relationship with them and our collaborative experience with growing WordPress and the community in Norway.

Who is joining Dekode?

While we would have loved for everyone to take the next step, moving companies isn’t the best for everyone and some of us unfortunately won’t be joining Dekode. With that said, I’m super happy to be joining together with Rob and Gareth and the new team that we’ll be forming there.

What Happens to The Look and Feel?

The Look and Feel, as of 1 January 2017, will be no more. I don’t think that I’ll retire it completely, and still have some ideas around what to use the branding / company name for (cause it’s pretty damn amazing) but as for us we’ll be putting 110% of our efforts into Dekode and our new home there.

With that said, we’re really excited for what’s next and can’t wait to keep you informed with what happens next over at and @Dekode on Twitter.

Onwards and upwards!

Very exciting news here at The Look and Feel as we bring on two new additions, Gareth Welton and Rob Ward.

Both Gareth and Rob bring a lot to our team with their previous experience and are a great fit with our existing projects, on-going ideas and unique company culture.

Gareth (left) joins as a Technical PM and his experience over the years, technical knowledge and strong communication skills already bring a lot to the team we’re excited to see his role grow.

Rob (right) joins the as a Lead Developer. Rob brings on very wide range of skill-sets to the team and will work closely with Coen on existing work and other exciting projects we continue to think up.

Coen Jacobs Joins TLAF

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that Coen Jacobs will be joining The Look and Feel full-time as CTO starting this month. Not only does Coen bring on heaps of technical knowledge to the team, he’s been a great friend of mine ever since we joined WooThemes back in 2012. Coen’s active involvement with WordPress over the years, knowledge with WooCommerce he brings along and a passion to learn new tools makes him a perfect fit for his new position as lead of technology at the Look and Feel.

Again, we’re really excited to have you join Coen and look forward to your impact on current projects and what we’ll do together moving forward.

Welcome aboard!
